Kinston Baseball Cards

This page is a checklist of all the Kinston baseball cards that I know about. It will only include standard size (or close to standard size) cards. Postcards, stickers, business cards, tickets, pocket schedules, etc... will not be included. Information about those items will be found on the memorabilia page.

In order for a baseball card to be considered a "Kinston baseball card" and be included on this list, the card must meet one or more of these criteria:

1. The player is identified as being a member of the Kinston team by word or logo., or

2. The player is shown in a Kinston uniform or cap., or

3. The player played for Kinston at some time and he is shown in Grainger stadium., or

4. The player played for Kinston at some time and the card was largely distributed at Grainger stadium., or

5. The card is a Kinston logo, checklist, or mascot card.

THE CHECKLISTS

The Annual Team Sets

These sets were only available at Grainger Stadium or directly from the manufacturer. With the exception of 1984, there has been at least one annual team set issued every season from 1982 to the present. Since minor league teams do not know ahead of time who will be playing for them, and players can not be pictured in their minor league uniforms until after the season starts, these sets are not available at the ballpark until June or July usually. The sets reflect the lineup of the team as it looked in the opening month of the campaign. It is rare for late arriving players to be added to a set, but it has happened. It is important to note that, unlike major league sets which are cards of "players", minor league sets are cards of "teams". Because of this, one will often see cards of mascots, general managers, owners, trainers, radio announcers, batboys, etc.... As a general rule, these sets were sold in the souvenir store, but there have been times when they were used as promotional giveaways. The heading for each checklist will include the year of the set along with the name of the maker.
